Current Uses
The fresh plant is highly aromatic. Dried leaves can be used in teas or to make powders. The herb can be used to make medicated ghee. Juice of the fresh leaf can be applied to the skin to treat fungal infections. As an adaptogen, it promotes longevity and stress relief.

History
The plant is highly revered in India and is dedicated to the god Vishnu. The Sanskrit word Tulsi means "the incomparable one" in reference to Siva.
